Everywhere I go around the US people are always asking me "what happened to Coo Coo Cal"? Coo Coo is around Milwaukee and probably made one of the most classic, yet slept on songs from Milwaukee ever. This song still goes hard. Sounds like the south and Jazze Pha jacked our Midwest slang a bit. This video is from 2000 or 2001. Much respect to the OG Coo Coo Cal. Sometimes in life you look past the little things. The things that you've grown used. Then something happens to remind you that it could all not be.
I have been given the supreme opportunity to be able to present my talent to the world on a massive level. And I am genuinely thankful for all of my opportunities.
To belong to a band such as Fresh Cut Collective is an opportunity that I have always dreamed of. This is only the beginning.
To also still be relevant and rocking solo with other artists is also a blessing and an opportunity. I realize that easily my fate could change. So while the time is right and the iron is hot. I will count and appreciate the blessings because I don't want to be one of those who look back when its all said and done, have nothing and then realize all the small and beautiful things that they had. Tired and a bit exhausted is how I feel at times, but never down and out. Right now I'm just chillin out after a long day.
I had the grand opportunity of participating as a chaperone for my son's kindergarten class on their feild trip to the Milwaukee Public Museum. I had a great time as I always do whenever I participate as a chaperone in one of my children's feild trips. Those kids are something else. And my son, who's name is also Adebisi is an apt pupal. They call me Adebisi's dad and one of the students just calls me by my name...Adebisi. I love it.
We did plenty today though. I think we had the chance to see every exhibit at the Museum. I've been there so many times, so I knew where and when to go. I named my group the "All Star's". We had a good time marching through the museum. Kids are crazy, and of course getting that extra time to spend with my son is always awesome.
I love being a father to my two children Adebisi and Asabi. After the fieldtrip I went with their mother to pick up our daughter Asabi at her school. She is one amazing little girl, and I love her so much.
At times when they are asleep I watch and wonder what they will become. For they are my future. And the future looks so bright. Agoro.

Adebisi partners with Mz Stylez for 80's babies Mixtape

Hip-hop blogger and Sirius radio host Mz Stylez is a tough critic, as Milwaukee rapper Adebisi learned last year when he submitted one of his tracks to her for review. In a vicious, four-minute YouTube video rant, Stylez trashed the song and Adebisi, at one point feigning tears as she blamed him for essentially killing hip-hop.

She may be over dramatic, but you can't accuse of her of being close minded, though. Stylez had a change of heart about the rapper after hearing his mixtape Victory: The Hunger for War last year, then sought him out to work on a project together. Adebisi already had a project in mind.

"A local producer called No Gimmicks had just given me all these '80s instrumentals, so I was like, 'fuck it, let's do a mixtape with all '80s samples called 80's Babies,'" Adebisi recalls. Recorded at producer Reason's 4AR studios and featuring drops from Mz Stylez and DJ Green Lantern, the mixtape is an album-length celebration of breakdancing, box fades, jeri curls, "21 Jump Street" and the Fresh Prince, built from re-purposed classic breaks, scratches and horn blasts.

"I was born in '81, right around the time hip-hop was really coming into its own, so the album captures my early experiences with music," Adebisi says. "My older cousin was a DJ, so hip-hop music was always a big part of my life from '81 to '89, and I wanted to pay homage to that era, because it's part of my essence."

In an example of grassroots marketing at the most micro of levels, the mixtape, which is available for free download here, was released on Feb. 15—"because it was my birthday," Adebisi explains, "and I knew naturally everybody would be hitting it up on my Facebook page, so this was like a gift I gave out."

It should be the first of several releases Adebisi puts out this year. His live band, Fresh Cut Collective, is planning on finishing an album this spring, and Adebisi is looking to release a solo album before the end of summer. He'll play a CD release show for 80's Babies on Friday, April 30 at the Stonefly Brewery, donating a portion of the proceeds from that show to the South Division High School music program.

MKE Talent Spotlight: Key Cal of Bangladesh Productions. LISTEN UP!

Milwaukee talent is starting to shine. I am proud to say that my homeboy Key Cal as finally gotten his break as a stand out music producer with Bangladesh Productions.
For those of you who don't know Key Cal is cousin to Shondrae Crawford founder of Bangladesh Productions. A few years ago after grinding in Milwaukee and showcasing beats for Shondrae Key Cal eventually moved to Atlanta to begin working for Bangladesh. That experience served him well and eventually led to Busta Rhymes purchasing and rhyming over one of Key Cal's beats. The song "Bass" was leaked heavily on the internet but soon after Busta Rhymes was dropped from Aftermath and the project was never released.
Things didn't work out as planned and soon enough Key Cal found himself back in Milwaukee on the grind. I'd run into Cal downtown as we were both headed from work or some place and we'd talk about "what if that album would have dropped?". Eventually we'd say something to the likes of "it will come in due time", and I guess we were dead on.

Ludacris' new album 'Battle of The Sexes" has just debuted at number one on the Billboard 100 and my homie Key Cal is responsible for the production of not one, but two of the tracks on the album "Party No Mo" feat Gucci Mane and "Rollercoaster" feat Dru Hill.

This is a big day for Milwaukee music even if you didn't know!

Daily Inspiration: David Banner & 9th Wonder "Strange"

It seems that after years of chasing commercial success Lavelle Crump aka David Banner has come to his senses and realized he was never the artist he portrayed. Early on in his career David Banner had commercial successes with songs such as "Like a Pimp" and production credits on smash singles like T.I's "Rubberband Man". However he failed when trying to duplicate that same formula that brought those songs success in his own career.
The underground first caught wind of David Banner for his song "Caddillac on 22's". Which was a heartfelt song that had very sincere lyrics. Fans fell in love with that side of David banner, but on each subsequent release he kept pushing for those commercial hits instead of giving the people music that they could feel. As his success as a pop star rose his sales declined
With the aptly titled "Death of a Pop Star" it seems David Banner has come full circle and once again brought the people some real, good music. I was happy to see when he teamed up with 9th Wonder to make this project happen. Projects with sincere lyrics and great production like this is exactly what the game needs right now.
I was cruising the blogosphere when I found this joint on one of those blogs (the major blogs all post the same things anyway..so it really doesn't matter to name). I hope you all like it as much as i do.

I Love It When They Call Me Big Papa: R.I.P Biggie Smalls

I was a sophomore in High School when Christopher Wallace aka The Notorious B.I.G aka Biggie Smalls died on March 9th 1997.
I thought the world was playing a cruel joke on me. When I woke up and someone called and told me that Big had gotten shot and killed. I didn't beleive it. Just the past September we had lost Tupac and I really wasn't ready to lose Big. In my heart I felt a tragic loss for Tupac and I knew he died over some senseless bullshit that I felt Big had nothing to do with, but who knows. Anyhow I felt at least we still had Biggie.
That whole East Coast/West Coast battle was sme straight up bullshit back in the day I witnessed it all and in the aftermath it was never worth losing two premier icons of pop culture such as Big and Pac.
Everyday their are both missed. Today we not only recognize the loss of Biggie, we celebrate his life.
Rest in peace Big Homie. You died too young and I am happy to have you as inspiration to me as an emcee.

This song is written beautifully first and foremost. This was always one of my favorite cuts off of his debut LP The Love Experience. if you have never had the opportunity to check it out I sugget you do, because it is a phenomenol album.
This clip is of Raheem along with his band playing a slightly mellower, more acoustic and softer version of the original. However when I came across it I was amazed, because this version does the song so much more justice.

What it do world? These last few weeks have been something else, so sorry for negelecting the blog and not leaving you with some actual thought provoking content. I have been busy creating. I hope you all have enjoyed the many videos that i have been posting. If I don't have time to write I always like to at lease leave you with something unique for your mind. Good I have alot of friends and connections as to where I can bring you something from what you see on every other blog all the time. Minus a few things...that i see and just happen to like.
i am happy to announce that the 80's Babies mixtape is vastly approaching 1,000 downloads and has been recieved well by the public. Not on a huge scale but enough to let me know to continue on the path which I am on. We are about to be almost completely done recording the Fresh Cut Collective project and my solo project should also be out and finished within the next few months. I need to get that burden off my back and give it to the people
The present is hum drum at times, but the future is bright. I had a conversation with one of my favorite people on earth earlier yesterday and we got through some intense issues in a most kind way. More on that later..however I thank that person for being so kind patient and understanding.
Tomorrow is the Fresh Cut and Constellations show which will be dope. I hope to see you out at Mad Planet if you are in the area.

What's going on or Waddupdoe as they say in Michigan. Right Now I'm posted in Pontiac, Michigan. I spent yesterday recording some new material at a studio on the West Side of Detroit...or as the folks from around here say 'The Side".
I have been showed nothing but the best as far as mid western hospitality by my Detroit fam. And the recording and studio experience has been one of my favorites ever.
Yesterday we spent about 8 hours in the studio writing mostly. We did however record one new song that we had spent time writing.
It was a very comfortable recording experience. The facilities are great and the equipment is all top quality.

I'm just writing to let ya'll know what I been up to. Holla back.

First off I had no idea that the black dude who played Hammer (and was also in the 40 year old virgin) was the lead singer in the early 90's group "College Boys".
In 1992 I used to love this song. Even at the young age of 11 I knew how much sense it made. I guess even at that age I was having my thoughts on fame and the trappings of success.
It amazes, confuses and scares me how many people do fall victim. The paradox of fame and success is a two way street. When things are going great someone is usually accused of acting different, or not accrediting people. While their is always someone accusing you of not doing a certain something. When things aren't going so well no one cares. These things I find hilarious.

Life Is Like 7 Days: What a week (80's Babies acknowledgments)

I apologoze for not posting over the last week. I have been busy online promoting the "80's Babies" project.
The good news is that the "80's Babies" project is looking to exceed 800 downloads over the last 7 days. That is a major accomplishment for me, as well as everyone else on the BLAX team and our affiliates.
Let me take a moment to recognize everyone involved in the success of the "80's Babies" project.

- Ren aka No Gimmicks: For producing the original track "80's Babies" that not only inspired me to make this mixtape, but helped catapault the music coming from Milwaukee to national heights.

- Reason @ 4AR Studios: The silent assassin for recording, mixing, mastering and arranging the project. For having the vision of what to do with a creative mess.
- Mz Stylez @ Sirius XM Radio: C'mon son! For all the work and dedication to the project. Lending her voice and talents to the whole project. We put in months of work...it has paid off!

- J Nut & B Tweezy: These cats nudged, begged and pleaded me to get this project out. I had gotten to a point where I was dragging my feet. The final steps to completing this project I owe to them.

Asides from promoting thie project I also had a gang of other stuff going on over the past 7 days. I got fired form one of my three jobs (who cares). Had a day long studio/video session with Fresh Cut Collective. We recorded a great song and have the video to prove (coming soon). I spents a gang of time with my kids...and ih my birthday was also Monday....so I drank a ton of whiskey this week! Most of it's a blur...Life of a Rock Star.

I am proud to finally bring this "80's Babies" project to you all. This is a project that I have been wanting to put together and put out for sometime now.
I first had the idea about two years ago when i was discussing a new mixtape project to put together with my homie Ren aka No Gimmicks. At that time he had told me that he just got hold to a bunch of dope instrumentals from the 80's. I was like cool. However at that time I had planned on doing a citywide mixtape and concert where artists from around the city would rock to their favorite 80's joints and we do a dope concert. I was thinking to big. i hollered at a few cats but no one was really serious. So for a long time, I just sat on the instrumentals.
Fast forward to a year later. By this time I had been putting music up online and at least had been getting a response. Then I dropped the "Victory" mixtape online....that got what I thought was a great response. The Internet is crazy.
Anyhow I got my tape to Stylez and after hearing it she asked if I wanted to do a project. I obliged and from that point we started working on the project. I told her i had a bunch of 80's Instrumentals and she was down to do an 80's inspired tape.
I started recording. The recording process wasn't easy as i only could go record with Reason at 4AR Studio's on Thursday nights. Eventually we finished our parts and sent them to Mz Stylez in NYC.
Throughout the process of recording this project I was going through alot of different things that in some ways delated the project, but i kept on pushing and the project that i am bringing to you is premium material. I sincerely hope you enjoy it. Availabe for Free Download Monday!

I've been hip to Wiz Khalifa since about 2005. I just remembered seeing this fresh faced kid from PA who they said could be the future of hip hop one day. 5 years later and it is evident that time and his grind is paying off. Wiz and Curren$y just recently dropped a mixtape together which was pretty fire if you ask me. These cats are reppin. Somehow watching them make it makes me feel some kind of way...a good way..there is hope for hip hop.

So today as I was cruising online I ran across this picture of the homie Naledge (Kids In The Hall) alongside a pic of what seems to be the homegirl Crystal aka @murdamex (the girl on the right hand side). Okay, okay I haven't actually confirmed that it was her, but the girl in the pic sure looks like her! So hey...i'mma go with it.
And if it is...well damn we done lost a cutie to Chicago! Lol! We miss seeing her big, bright smile at the hip hop events, but I hope school, work and Chicago is treating her well!
Someone confirm this for me! For I'd hate to look like a fool.....i really don't care though.

Mikkey Halsted "Best You nEver Heard" mixtape download

Yesterday I was invited down to Chicago to close out the night with a song at Mikkey Halsted's "Best You nEver Heard" mixtape release party. The night was a success and i got another opportunity to show face and build with some of my Chicago musical homies. More on that later.

If life is like 5 days, then today has been one long second...

Today has been a day. I'm just writing this now as I wait for my homie Luc of S&P Design to finish my order of cd inserts so that I have product to take down to Chicago tonight.
I've been running around in circles all day today. First i woke up and walked to Fuel Cafe to have some quick breakfast, then after I that me and my homegirl walked to S&P Design so that I could initiate the order of my cd inserts. I had to search all over for the jpeg file of my older mixtape, but I found it. After I got my order in and paid the balance in full I had to leave their to go get with my homeboy MP3 so that he could duplicate the cd's for me. Tonight I'm taking both copies of my new project with Mz Stylez and my last mixtape project down to Chicago with me. Why not?
Oh..so tonight I'm gonna be doing a few songs at Reggies Rock Lounge for my homeboy Mikkey Halsted's mixtape releaxse party. This should be fun and I know there are gonna be a ton of people down there. Gotta have that product wrapped tight and in order for sale ya digggg!
I'm supposed to leave at 8:30....three hours and I still have a grip of things to do. Just wanted to check in with you all. I hope the world is giving you....exactly what you give it.

Ode to my ex wife - OutKast - Ms. Jackson

I was going to title this post "Ode to my baby mama", but since i married the lady who had my two kids she isn't my baby mama, but my ex wife.
Alot of you following this blog probably wouldn't know or even believe that I was married from the age of 20-25. Yea i got it in while I was alot younger. back then I..we thought that we knew everything. Little did we know that e didn't know shit and had no idea what we had gotten ourselves into.
I'm not at all knocking marriage, because I feel it is a good and healthy institution that more people need not to be afraid to take that leap into. However I think it is a good idea to wait and find out who you are as a person before you commit to take that next step with someone. I can't say i was ready for marriage at twenty. My first thought should have been that I wasn't ready to have a child. However finding myself in a situation where I had impregnated a woman I felt it was my duty to marry the woman. i didn't want to leave her hanging nor did I want my child to be born into this world a bastard. Just my take on things, I'm not the best man but I do live my life by a set of morals and principles. So one day in the months before our son was born we took our gddy asses to the courthouse and got married. Funny thing was right after the ceremony I had to go to work....go figure.
We had our ups and downs, good times and bad times and down the line had another child a beautiful baby girl. However I think our immaturity and not knowing how to deal with our own issues, let alone raise a family and maintain a relationship eventually split us apart.
Overall it was a good learning experience. When we were together we were best friends at times and i think we taught each other alot.
I was listening to Outkast's album "Stankonia" when this track came on. It made me think about what we had, and how it went down. I'm sorry Ms. Thompson, i am for real, never meant to make your daughter cry, i apologize a million times.

MKE Talent Spotlight: We Are Your Father - "Sarge" music video

Milwaukee rocks! We all know that here and if you don't know now you know. Here in Milwaukee we have as large of an artist comunity as any big city. No matter which corner you turn your gonna find someone doing something. Playing in a band here, producing beats their or singing with this group...you get the picture.
Just so happens as I was walking home the other night my neighbors Wolfgang and Ryan were outside smoking a cigarette. I stopped and had a few words with them and they asked me to come in and peep their music video on you tube. And so i did. Now previously to seeing the video I had talked with both of these guys about music and they both are familiar with me and Fresh Cut Collective. However I hadn't heard any of their stuff so I was anxious to see what they had to offer. I was kind of blown away by the energy that they were bringing with this song and quite impressed. It seem's the world is not making enough love. For those who need to relax and let a little loving in their lives. I've got the recipe.
Wisconsin in winter get's really cold. And what better way to keep warm than having someone close to you to help ease those winter time blues and chase away the chills. Now some may beg to differ and say the best recipe is wrapping yourself in your snuggie, cupping a glass of hot cocoa and falling to sleep while watching reruns of "Seinfeld". And obviously...that person isn't getting any, nor are they taking full advantage of the secluded winter wonderland which can easily heat up....if you know how to crank up the heat....no WE Energies..!
On a cold day what better way to settle in than grab your loved one and releax with some comfort food. I suggest tossing some quilts and blankets on the couch, gathering under them and throw a dvd in the dvd player. Sit back, relax, snack and but ofcourse...take advantage of this most intimate situation (like your really gonna be paying attention to the movie anyway).
Light some incense, chill, inhale the fruits........in so many words..relax your mind. Smoke a joint if you have too. In many cases THC has been seen to increase sexual libido amongt couples. Hey...it's a snow day, and if it isn't...do it for the love. Trust me!
After a little food, a little cuddling, a quick movie and some mental relaxation you may already be at the point of ecstatic bliss and long to tear each other apart. But remember to make the most out of the moment and strive to make a good thing last. So, if your not living off in the barren lands maybe the two of you should opt for a brisk winter walk. Not a long walk, but a short romantic walk to a local bar to have a quick drink before ending off the night.
And what better drink to drink on a cold, cold day but whiskey! For the fellas I suggest straight up whiskey shots, for the ladies..if you can't hang...a whiskey sour should do. After knocking back a few drinks and maybe a beer or two you both should be feeling the ecstasy in the air. By that time the culmination of food, cuddling, movie, mental relaxation and alcohol have got to have you two ready to get it on!
There is nothing more to it, but to do it. The rest is up to you.

In The Zone: Fresh Cut Collective....making the album.

A few weeks ago I made my first trip to the studio to start laying down the vocals for the Fresh Cut Collective album. I didn't know what to expect of the music at first, because up to this point everyone from the band had went in previous to me and layed their parts down seperately. So actually for the album their was no one time when we were all in the studio recording our parts.
The feeling I initially felt from listening to the complete instrumental version's of Project Talk, Never Over and Loveless was vintage. The drum and bass tracks that were layed by by Micheal Stewart and Paul Fleming sounded phenomenal. They sounded so warm and crisp like something from the Stax archives. You know that Issac Hayes deep grooving sound. This album is going to have a retro type groove that hasn't been captivated in music many years. I have to thank the musicians of Fresh Cut Collective for putting together the pieces so well so that I would be able to accurately execute my vocals.
I layed the vocals to each of those songs really quick as I have been performing those songs live for some time now. I made sure I layered the vocals 6 or 7 times each so that we could get the best of each take. Putting in that work so that I know we get the premium cuts.
i think this can be one of the biggest projects to drop from a Milwaukee group in a long time. Well at least I hope so, and.....it is my project so why wouldn't i feel that way. First the Wamy's then the Grammy's. Lol! Well I guess the first step to getting their is finishing this album. I hope you folks are excoted as i am. In December of 2008 I had the opportunity to catch a quick interview with one of my all time favorite producers No I.D. It was cool because i was in Chicago at that time hanging out at Sound Scape Studios for Mikkey Halsted's Website launch party.
This was jus before Kanye West's "808's & Heartbreaks" and way, way before Jay-Z's "Blueprint 3" album was to ever see the day of light.
I posted this earlier on the blog, but when i did. I don't think folks were listening.

1994 I was G'd up (or so i thought). You couldn't tell me nothing was better than some good ol' gangstafied West Coast Hip Hop. Contrary to popular belief (for those that know and have grown to know me), from about 1990 - 1994 I was damn near strictly a West Coast hip hop head. I had my East Coast Jams, but Ice Cube had me in a headlock. Who know's? Maybe it was the hard hitting hood anthems from "Amerikkas Most Wanted" (Cube's first solo album) that really made me a fan (I was a very big fan of NWA coming up also). However when the "Lethal Injection" album dropped I was sowed up! Man! All I wanted was a fro a black khaki suit and some Chuck Taylor high tops (years later I would eventually get my 1st pair of Chucks). Cube was and in most repects still is the man. I can't beleive how long he has been doing it and how long I have been a fan. I guess Ice Cube said it right...you know how we do it. Peep this classic video.

So last night I was supposed to do a small solo performance here in Milwaukee after working a total of 12 hours at both of my jobs. Now these particular shows I was strictly doing to help some of my homies get their movement further off of the ground, so i wasn't even charging them much. Now on more than one occasion of working with these cats I have been shorted what I was supposed to get paid. However...except for one time I didn't mind, because I felt I was being a good person by doing these guys a favor. Last night was my last straw though. Let me explain.
So me...being the generous guy I am agreed to do a performance at a wayyyy low rate, because I know brothers be struggling. I also knew I had work 12 hours that day, but hey I love rhyming, I love hip hop so I said fuck it. I'll do it.
Now after getting off from my job at Urban Outfitters I wlaked over to the venue. Which was about a half a mile from my job. Now when I get to the venue I see signs on the door that stated that the show had been moved to another venue. Naturally i was pissed because me being a performer should have been the first one to get notified that the show was moved. I wasn't.
Anyhow after a few trials and conversations i was picked up by someone and taken to the other venue where the show was supposed to had been moved to. I was then told that we had about a half an hour to perform and that the show would be split into two 15 minute sets. Whatever. However when i asked about the pay i was told "I don't know, but I can get you some free drinks". Haha I thought......and eventually I silently left out of the back door.
At that point I released all the bullshit from artistic my life. I let go from doing my art for free for ANYONE! Especially some dudes who haven't yet gotten their shit together. I'm a professional and I gotta get paid. Only a drunk works for free drinks...and I'm much more a lover of the herbal essence...u smell me!

My God time is flying...

I can't lie. Sometimes I get emotional. Just in general. Sometimes I have felt that I wasn't getting my just do in life and i have gotten angry. I have a certain lust for life so what would you expect. Things are going quite well though, even when I think they aren't. I sometimes have to remind myself that they are. And they are. As an artist I deal with some slight issues of depression when i am not engaged in my art or feel that I am not having the opportunity to properly express myself. Expression is my life's blood. I need that. I've learned that I also need patience. This lofty goal that I have of reaching a certain point in my music career and attaining my goals takes time.
Again i can't complain. Twelve months ago i embarked on what seems like the second phase at my attempt to breakthrough into the music industry. that second phase would be forming Fresh Cut Collective. I had done all i could do by myself thus far as a solo emcee, and I had always longed on having a band. So coincidentally i met Kiran who is the music behind the band as well as one of the band's keyboardist's and we went from there. It trips me out because we are packing shows in Milwaukee and making some real good moves and it's only been a year. I mean i my mind it's all according to plan, but how often do things go as smoothly as you envision them in your mind. Hardly never.
In one years time we have opened up for more than a handful of national acts (Rhymefest, The Cool Kids, Movits!, Curimin), and we are now recording our debut album with help from Milwaukee independant record label UniFi Records. We are still booking shows also. Hopefully by the time spring/summer rolls around we should be done with the album and touring. i know that the album is gonna do some major things. I;m not expecting to sell a million, but I know we can at least push 10,000 by ourselves off fans and touring. I don't see the first 1,000 cd's not selling out in a few weeks in Milwaukee alone. Why not?
The world around me is changing, even though my immediate world may not be changing so drastically. People see something in me..in us that we don't even see ourselves. What we are doing gives them a feeling that they hold on to and adore. So now i am learning to embrace that energy so that i can harness it and give it back.

James Dewitt Yancey, Jay Dee, Jay Dilla, Dilla Dawg...GoDbLess.

Before Jay Dilla died I had no idea on how much he influenced alot of the music that I had grown to love at that point throughout my life.
I was working on my first solo album "The Street Scholar" with Wisconsin producer Dylan Thomas at the time when Jay Dilla's posthoumous album "Donuts" came out. I remembered how dude was so excited to get through with the session so that he could hop in his car and listen to "that new Dilla"! Still I was like "okay"?
I had been listening to The Pharcyde, Slum Village, Common, Erykah Badu and countless other artists that Jay Dilla had produced for and not even put together the fact hat the reason why I loved these particular songs was for their outstanding production. As a matter of fact the "Soulquarians" were and probably is my favorite production collabo of all times. The work that they did on Common's "Like Water for Chocolate" album was simply amazing! When I had that epiphany of how most of my favorite music at that point had been produced by Jay Dilla it finally weighed on me. Wow! The world has lost a musical genius. And what he contributed to the game can maybe be duplicated, but it can never be replaced.
I never really knew how much of a fan of Dilla's music I was. I didn't have the knowledge about him at the time to know that he was actually the dude behind the rhythm that made my head nod. I don't even remember why I bought Slum Village's "Fantastic Volume 2" disk. I just remember picking it up because it looked like a decent buy. I had no idea that I would eventually listen to that cd in my small blue Chevy until the disk could do nothing more than skip. "Don't sell yourself to fall in love...with those things you do", I fell in love....with the music.
It sucks that sometimes in this life you never get recognized for your greatness until this life is no more. Only then will the world have the time and patience to reflect on how your contribution to the world.
Along the pursuit of happiness there are always setbacks. Some greater than others. James Yancey was an artist who saw a majority of his most spirited projects sit on the shelves of execs at Major Labels. Just think how if the majors would have released a Dilla album. They could have changed the game and the way that the music industry is today. Devils.
God bless the legacy of the man known by many names, but most just call him Dilla.
I hope to leave as great an impact on the world as he did when my time is done.

That line speaks volumes to the human struggle and triumph. Sometimes I feel the same way.

Fresh Cut Collective/Movits! Show Re-cap.

MAN! Last Saturday's show was so crazy that I couldn't even write about it till today! I feel real sorry for anyone who was not in attendance because if you missed the show you missed a hot one.
I arrived at the venue at around 9:30 and their was already a substantial amount of people already at the venue. By the time 10:00 rolled around the venue was damn near packed! It was crazy because this was at least an hour and a half before anyone was set to hit the stage! The energy was crazy! There were so many new faces...and beautiful ladies in the place that I felt as if I was in some big club in the UK. Thats partially because Dj Tarik was spinning alot of Swedish hip hop and pop music as well as mixing in some other eurocentric music. It provided great atmosphere for the show and showed some appreciation for the touring Movits!
We took the stage at around 11:30ish and by the time I walked up from the basement of Stonefly Brewery the place was PACKED and off the chain! The crowd was screaming "We want Fresh Cut" and it was pretty amazing!
To make a long story short, we rocked out for about 45 minutes to a packed house of fans and new fans who were singing along with us to our songs! These fans are loyal because they know most of our material that we perform and we don't even have a record out! When we finally drop it the record is gonna be KILLER!
Movits! hit the stage after us and also gave the people a pleasing show! After the show the two bands as well as about 30-40 people who attended the show partied at my house till about 5am! Rockstar nights! I love the life!

Relationships: 5 ways to keep a man (by Adebisi for the ladies)

There are way more woman in the world than men. I don't know the exact ratio to numbers, but it is a fact. With that said there are always women racing to be with, have sex or lock down a man (even though a huge percentage of women are choosing the lesbian route).
Well today I will switch my hat up, as I sometimes do and play the role of the hood Dr. Ruth for all of you ladies struggling to keep a man within your grasps. So listen carefully as i won't repeat any of this good game that i am dropping.
Okay here are the five sure ways to keeping your man...ladies listen up.

Number 1. F-ck him. Sorry to put it so bluntly, but I guess that's just the way you have to come at it. Most men hate women that are too sexually passive. Don't be so aggressive either, but definitely be assertive when it comes to matters of the bedroom. Don't be shy either! Like the homegirl Missy Elliot said "Get Your Freak On". Because ladies...you really can't get mad if your dude is getting what he can't get from you...from somewhere else. Maybe you should have jumped the gun and got to gettin a little sooner. One essential rule is to never confuse sex with emotions though. A man's head and his heart are operating on two different planes..if you know what I mean.

Number 2. Feed him. I think every woman already knows that one of the best ways to get to a man's heart is through his stomach. Every man loves to eat! If a woman tells me that she can't cook then I'm certainly looking at her like "what"? My mama taught me how to cook, so I don't need a woman to cook for me. However if you can bring it in the kitchen like Julia Child that just may drive him wild! Don't be lazy! Always wanting to eat at restaurants and stuff..acting like you classy!. Get your trifling tail up and cook a meal! Lol!

Number 3. Leave him. Sounds funny, but when a man is sexually satisfied and full he wants to be left the hell alone..for a while. Depending on the domestic situation depends on how long you should leave your man alone. If this is a live in situation then you should feed the man, f-ck the man and let that man take his ass to sleep. He will wake to love you more while not only having the scent of your love on his body, but the taste of your...food in his mouth! Trust me!
However if this is a dating situation "leave him" takes on a slightly different twist. A dating situation has a totally different commitment than a live in situation. If a guy chooses to just date a woman and not fully commit to her then that means that he still appreciates his space. So after enjoying steps one and two leave him with some time alone. You don't have to worry about calling him or if he's gonna come and see you. He knows whats good and will come when he is ready. And if you understand that and be patient things may just be okay.

Number 4. Befriend him. Now ladies, just because you really like a man doesn't mean that you have to get all silly and clingy. A guy likes a girl who can look him straight in the eye's and give him her honest opinion. Don't just sit back and be a "yes girl", because you like the guy. Be real with him. 1999 was my senior year of highschool. At that time I felt like the world was my oyster. The previous year I had just moved to Racine, WI from Milwaukee and started attending J.I Case Highschool. By the time my senior year rolled around I had it made. I had good friends, I was popular with the ladies, my clothes were on point and hell...I was just pretty popular all around! Life had it's rough patches, but all around it was good.
I remember working at The Finish Line (a shoe store located within the mall) the night before the Jay Z "Vol 2..Hard Knock Life" album dropped and wondering how I was gonna be one of the first to get a copy of the album when I had school the next day. In 99 there was no itunes so if you really wanted an album you had to get it yourself. I had made up in my mind that after fourth hour or so I was just gonna skip class and go to the mall to get the album. Well, while I was on my way out I ran into a girl who had just come from getting the Jay Z album and she said that she didn't like it! So instead of skipping school and going to get the album I just bought her copy off of her right there in the hallway. So actually SHE was the first person to have the album, but seeing that she sold it to me...I was! This was a BIG deal! Anyhow, I took the album home and had my time with it. Even though I didn't have the satisfaction of opening the plastic and taking in the scent of a new cd I still enjoyed every bit of the album. This cut "It's Like That" was always one of my favorite cuts! Jigga's flow was razor sharp! Take a listen. If your from where I'm from maybe it'll take you back to a much more innocent time also.

My homegirl Alida hipped me to this kid about a week ago. Quintin was one of her students at Roosevelt School of the Arts and is rumored to already have a record deal! This kid is amazing. I feel it is my duty to let the world know about the talent we have brewing in Brew City. The cream always rises to the top. I will have an opportunity to work with Quintin next month at Roosevelt middle school as he along with myself and others will be giving a workshop to the students at Roosevelt Middle School. Thanks again Alida for hippin me to this young musical genius. He is truly one of the illest I have ever seen.

Ever since the release of this album Canibus has been receiving alot of slack for the lukewarm reception of his initial album. However the man Canibus has always been one of the ILLEST lyricist's to ever touch the mic (arguably). I can't speak on what he is doing now, but I did really a song he did on one of Black Milks mixtapes.

Waddup people! So as of late along with the other millions of things that I have been doing I recently started performing regularily at various shows with another Milwaukee emcee MC Mikal in a series of shows that they are calling DollarMonsterLand.
Thus far each show has been different in it's own way. I always keep a few things consistent in my set, but I never constantly do the same set. I know that branding is a major factor, but since we do these shows weekly i always like to keep things fresh for entertainment purposes.
The shows are usually intimate and taking place at smaller establishments. This is cool for me because performing with Fresh Cut Collective I have been doing alot of larger shows and you happen to get away from the closeness of the people at those shows because they are so big and there is so much going on.
I'm using these shows as a lane to push mixtapes and other projects. Also to re-educate fans that may have just caught on to what I am doing as far as bringing them up to speed with my old and new material. I have so many songs recorded from previous years that I can constantly use older material that is still fresh and bring it back with some newer material.

Whoa! It's hella late. Two mountain dews, 4 espresso shots and a cup of coffee over the course of one day will leave u with the worst case of "I can't take my ass to sleep" that you have ever seen! Oh well I just been up cruising the internet seeing what has been p with some of my favorite artists. While cruising through I stopped at the homie B.O.B aka Bobby Ray's website bobatl.com and found this video of him and the homie Playboy Tre rocking "Bet I Bust" at the Sprite Step Off.
For those who don't know me and Playboy Tre recorded a song called "Bang Muzik" last October for my album "Hard Money". The track is produced by Reason of 4AR Music Group and I guarantee that it is a certified BANGER! I can't wait to get the opportunity to drop my album....man is it gonna go HARD!

The Women I Know: My Big Sister

I know some dope women. Growing up I was surrounded by women. I grew up in a single parent household which included my mother and my two sisters. So I guess that gave me some deeper insight into relationships with women. I love all of the women in my life. For without them I would never make it through. They hold me down. And I am gracious for it.
I never was the type of guy to just look at women as if they were beneath me. Maybe that's because in my house as a child my mother was more fierce than any man that I had ever met in my life. Not only that I had an older sister who was pretty tough on me too. I even remember my sister fighting two guys who messed with me when i was a little kid. Ha! She had a pair of pink 54.11 Reebok's that she called her "fighting shoes"! And boy when I saw her running down those stairs from our apartment on 55th & Kaul on that summer day I knew she meant business...and she did. She taught me alot as a kid. Without her I wouldn't know how to tie my shoes, recite my alphabet...so many things. She introduced me to West Coast Hip Hop and then East Coast Hip Hop when I was stuck on Dr. Dre and Ice Cube. In 1996 she even bought me my first copy of "Reasonable Doubt" on tape! I wasn't even feeling Jay Z! She had some progressive forsight. She was one of those dope "90's Girls" who all the guys on my block wanted to hang out with. Without her......growing up would have been pretty bleek.
Peep this video by early nineties rapper "Boss". She was on some real hard thug stuff...too bad she eventually got questioned about her private school background and eventully faded from Hip Hop existence. Thats too funny! However me and my sister used to LOVE this song. She even bought the bootleg copy of this album from Afro Fest! Lol. Back in the days.

"80's Babies" Artwork Sneak Preview!

The wait is almost over! If you didn't know I have been waiting to release this project for a few months. In a few weeks...or maybe even sooner I will finally have the opportunity to do ust that. I'm pretty excited about this whole "80's Babies" project. This project is a collaborative effort between myself and DJ Mz Stylez of Sirius XM Radio Shade 45. I appreciate her time and patience as she put in alot of hours mixing the project and giving it that cut and scratch 80's DJ feel. Ha! We stayed up alot of late nights working on this joint via phone as she made her way from Harlem to the Manhattan offices of Sirius XM Radio.
To me this is a way of paying homage to some of my favorite artists and Hip Hop songs that I grew up listening to. The project was fun for me to put together and a little something to give to the world until I can release my sophomore full length album "Hard Money".
Shouts out to B Tweezy for getting together with the folks from Viper Grafix and making the artwork for this project happen. It is always great to have good people on your team.

Some people dream....like really. In a dream state. Standing at place atempting to live a dream while actually putting no effort into actually making that dream a reality. Basking in the essence of living the dream. The final goal in the dream is only attained by those who grind it out. Not attempting to live the dream, but actually staying up late and working hard towards the goal to actually attain that dream.
Anything worthwhile takes time to attain. So best believe that reaching that point in your dreams isn't going to be easy. You can cop out and take the quick route as most individuals do. However when you realize that you aren't getting the most out of what you want and have played yourself. You will quickly long to have been amongst the one's with the most patience and discipline. For they are the one's that will reap all the benefits.
I'm patiently waiting to approach destiny. Not worried about what's going on in the world around me, but focused on the road ahead of me. Pick your path. See your vision. Be easy.

The Wackness: My thoughts on music.

I just may be the world's biggest critic on music. I am so critical about the music because that is what i do. I've been in tuned with what is good music since I was born. My mother nad father were at one time both into music, and I grew up with a heavy influence from both of them. Living with my mother i grew up on all types of souls and rock and roll. And my father being an immigrant from Nigeria always had some African music bumping in the house. So I feel I know music pretty damn well.
As the years go by I feel less and less inspired by what I am hearing. It all started in the nineties when No Limit was at it's peak. On the daily I would get in heated arguments over cats digging No Limit over Wu Tang and so on and so forth. I just couldn't understand how an individual could feel inspired by that wack ass music they were putting out! I was appaled because at the smetime the wackness started to prevail there were so many good music choices out there. Still the people rode hard with the wackness.
Now a days it has gotten to the point where the wackness is not only acceptable...it's the status quo. In an age where KRS can't sell 100k, Wacka Flocka Flames, Souljah Boy, OJ da Juiceman and Gucci mane prevail on. This to me is insane because I grew up listening to LYRICS. When I was coming up you couldn;t get away with that wack shit, because if you weren't spittin the flame then no one would listen. When and why did it all change?
The other day I followed a link posted on twitter by my good friend Pam Brown the editor of Street Talk Magazine in ATL (I have been featured in her paper before also). The link was to a song, another club song...featuring Wacka Flock Flames. I thought is was wack initially. I could see the appeal, but still it wasn't good music. So I replied and told her that the song was cool, jus not my style...a club banger none the least...but hot garbage at it's best.
Hip Hop music isn't club music if you ask me, But as of late the corporations, radio and these wack ass club dj's have been heavily bastardizing the artform I fell in love with called hip hop music! And i am not okay with it. Why? Because now all the young rappers coming up only make osngs about shorties, the trap, the club.....and other nonsensical bullshit. Grow up ya'll!
How long will we let this wack shit be mainstream? The music being made isn't a direct represntation of the people. It is a very skewed image of the minority of the folks who listen to hip hip who actually have money. When the most oart all of the folks that listen to hip hop are living paycheck to paycheck. I was soooo pissed when i first saw the Akon "I'm so paid" video that I wanted to go and choke the shit out of Akon and Devine Stephens myself! I felt it was bogus and irresponsible to make a song glorifyling "how paid" you were when the masses are struggling and dealing with losing their jobs and houses. Still i beth the same broke ass folks went out and spent their last 15 bucks to support that arrogant prick. Not me..i didn't even fathom n wasting my time or my dime.
Wack is the new real! Even in my own city the wackness prevails. Thank God for artists such as myslef and a handfull of others that strive and maintain to put out quality music to off kilter the balance of wack shit being heard and distributed throughout the city! You know who you are, and the wack cats know too!
In the music we need more support for artists coming out like Jay Electronica and J Cole, less support for Travis Porter, Wacka Flocka and OJ da Juiceman. I'm not a hater. If I don't like I don't like it, doesn't mean that I'm hating. I'm just stating that I hate wack music, and so should you! DO IT FOR OBAMA!

Traditionally..I'm a hustler. A hustler of all sorts. From penny candy to dime bags, during my 28 years on this earth I have done a little bit of it all. Some things that I am more proud of than others, some things that I am not. I am not ashamed of any of my hustling exploits though. Why? Because I could always rely on my strong hustle hand to get me through times of adversity. In the end I'm more ashamed to put up with working low paying jobs in pursuit if a steady paycheck. LMAO...cuz that doesn't happen anymore. Not in this life....man I hate my jobs.
Jobs I say, because I have a few. Seeing that there is a more than likely chance that someone from my jobs will actually read this blog I won't actually disclose where I work, even though most people already know where I work.
I'm not really trippin on the jobs that I work. It's just that I managed to get more than one job so that I would never have a problem having enough money. However that isn't the case, because damnit I don't get many hours to work at any of them. And the less hours I get, the more inclined I feel on jus saying "fuck it"! Lol! Too bad I gotta pay rent and child support! Mama never, ever told me about this mess.
I was talking with my friend Malcolm the other day about how hard it is to pursue your dreams, and he was in the same position that I am in. In Milwaukee with a dream that may just live and die in Milwaukee (because this place is the dream killer), with kids here. One day he just got up and left and since that day he say's he see's things clearly now. I know thats what I NEED to do, and eventually I will. I asked him how he went without seeing his daughter, and he told me that it was hard but he felt he was doing what he had to do to be able to provide her with a better life ( i totally felt and understood that). Maybe I'm afraid to fly, maybe I don't want to leave my kids because when my pops left he never came back. Whatever it is I know in my heart that I can't continue on going to work. Lol! As a matter of fact last year I already quit my damn job! I had some minor successes too, the whole plan just didn't fall in line in time, so that brought me back to square one...working...and this time for way less pay.
Patience is the lesson, my reward will be the blessing, however I'm not stressing, because destiny is manifesting. I'm just waiting on my Spaceship...sing it Kanye!

The Fame: My thoughts on success.

A few weeks ago I was at a venue that I was set to perform at and I was just kind of aloof and distant. A friend of mines was their and she pointed out that I wasn't being as conversational as I usually am. I told her that sometimes I can be a bit antisocial. Her reply to me was that she never recognized that, and maybe it was the fame getting to me. I kind of laughed it off, because I don't feel at all famous...yet. In some ways more than others. This last year of my life I have accumulated a hell of alot more popularity in my city due to the success of my band Fresh Cut Collective. And I enjoy it. It's kind of weird at times though, I'm starting to see what lies ahead, but am I ready?
Really I just want the money, maybe a new car, some fresh clothes. U know the basics. I have already said that if I blow up that I'm still staying at my current apartment because hell 400 a month is great if u have hundreds of thousands in the bank! Plus thats more money for sour diesel and other artist essentials!
The fame however I could go with out. It all comes in one package though you know. i just hope it doesn't unexpectedly hit too hard because i don't want to succumb to the pressures of success like Kanye West. Even more so like Kurt Cobain, DJ AM and countless rock stars like Hendrix and Morrison.
I sometimes have these strange out of body deja vu experiences when I'm on stage in the middle of an intense performance. Maybe its the lack of oxygen to my brain from rapping too many bars and not taking a breath. Maybe it's a sign that i am on the right track. Maybe I'm nuts and should drink less whiskey while performing...it's so, so good though! Sometimes it's as if the world is slows down and I'm seeing everything in slow motion. The looks on people's faces amaze me. Eyes staring, jaws dropped in disbelief. Sometimes it is alot to take in at one time. I'm happy they appreciate it. I sort of fear what is to come, not because I'm scared, but because the depths of fame are unknown. I'm ready though, i think I can handle it. When it gets crazy I'm moving to Africa anyway.
The fame, I know it's coming.....

I'm down for anything representing the red, black and green. I was curiously cruising the internet before I start my four hour shift at Urban Outfitters when I ran across these sneaks. These aren't too new or anything, but they did cross my eye. The design of the shoe isn't really a fvorite of mine...i mean it's cool, but it could be a little better. I think what really needs to be taken into consideration is some more attention to detail to the little specifics next go around. Black Label Premium makes some good clothes though. Last year in Harlem I bought at hat by Blac Label Premium that I really like. Big house party show tonight in Bay View! We (Fresh Cut Collective) have performed their a few times before, but every time we perform their its a different vibe.
The first time we performed their I got so drunk that I took my shirt off an cut my head on the ceiling of the basement...from jumping around. Don't ask me what happened after that. I was probably somewhere wildin out. Hey, Life of a rock star...
We also performed their last Halloween. The party was cool. The show was mediocre and soon after we performed I hit it right out of the door on to the next episode.

1992 was the shit. I remember bringing the soundtrack to the movie "Juice" to school to listen to Eric B and Rakim's song "Know the ledge" as we ran laps in gym class. Clearly the gym techer a the suburban elementary school I went to didn't know what he was getting into.ire
This is one of my favorite scenes from this movie. The humor, pain,irony and satire of the black male urban experience is all caught in this scene. The character "Bullet" was a fool! Although his character played a brief part in the movie. It was significant, and funny as hell. A tragic comedy I must say. The actions of the character "Bullet" spark a cache of emotions to ripple through the lives of "Bishop", 'Que" and the crew. Eventually bringing on the loss of trust, innocence and friendship amongst the "Wrecking Crew"

The Growth.

How I feel. I feel like I'm growing going into 2010. This is a new decade. All that was past is old. All that is to come is new. The second decade of the new millennium is going to be crazy. I'm happy to be on the cusp of a new wave of things. I've felt in the past that what I was doing wasn't being noticed or I was being past up. As if I was behind the talent curve and that I was never ever going to get my chance to shine. All the while perhaps I've been so far ahead of the curve that time just needed the opportunity to catch up with my train of thought. Moving at the speed of BLAX.
What moves me? Money? Still don't nothing move but that. When I was younger I didn't fully understand what that meant. As a matter of fact when I was younger there were a lot of things that I couldn't understand. Coming into my 29th year there are so many things that I am starting to see clearly. Lately I've been just looking back on all the hardships and bullshit I went through in my early and mid twenties and just analyzing that. There were times when I was locked up, beat down, left out in the cold, fucked up, wildin out doing dumb shit where I could have lost my life. I used to think that I would never make it to see 21. I remember making it. And I am still here. Life moves me. My children's lives move me. To be greater. So that they can be greater than me.
What it is that I love. I love God. Though I know I am a sinner not even worthy of his shine. He holds me high. I don't know why but within this decade I will search for the answer. I love my family. I love my Mama! And I just want to make it for her. Whatever making it is? I love my children. I love my people. I love Africa. I love women. I love my music.

I must say I have been away for a while. Oh well.
My Father once told me that "Rome was not built in one day". At the time I couldn't understand what he was saying. But now as I have grown as a man I know exactly what he was saying.

All that I have been doing, experiencing, chronicling and living are all but bricks building up towards a castle.

There are a lot of things that I have going on right now...in the life and times of an emcee. As of now I am sitting on two major projects that I have to release. First is the "80's Babies' mixtape. Which is done except for some voice work that me and Mz Stylez have to do over. I have a new artist working on the artwork and within a few weeks all things should be a go with that project. Due to the frequency of people promoting projects at this time I may jus wait till mid Janury to release the mixtape...who knows. Second is "Hard Money" my sophomore album. That album is wrapped. The only thing is getting the money up for the proper mixing and mastering. "Hard Money" is the opus so every little thing about that project must be meticulously looked at. To folks it may seem that I'm not moving, or I am moving slow, but all is within the proper time frame. Rome was not built in one day.

Then as always there is the Fresh Cut Collective project. Which is its own beautifully outstanding animal! We are writing new songs as well as laying the music to record our debut album. We don't yet have a title for the album, nor do we actually know where we want to go with the album yet. However we do have some great songs and eventually we will put them together to give the world some of the dopest music of our generation. At least that's what we hope to do.

Apart from being a full time artist I'm also a full time parent and part time employee!
Thankfully I have two of the most beautiful, humble and obedient children a man could ask for in Adebisi & Asabi.

Work aka the gig aka where i make a little bread. Is what it is you dig. Gotta do it. and so I do. Enough said.

It feels good to be writing this. Free from being held within the confines of 140 characters and status updates. Much more liberating.

I'm also starting some classes at South Division High School teaching youth creative writing through poetry and hip hop music. I went and recruited a few students yesterday that seemed eager to be involved. They also were kids who already had an interest in emceeing. Rapping as they put it, but I'm gonna change all of that.

For the most part in my brief hiatus I have just been grinding and getting things together. For real.

Everything ever promised to you will come in due time. Patience. Rome was not built in one day.

Since the death of my laptop battery and power chord I have been M.I.A like a muthafucka from this blog. BUt for a minute I'm back. So whats new with me you ask....plenty.
First things first be on the look out for the "80's Babies" mixtape presented by Simplystylez.com and Sirius XM Shade 45. Me and my homegirl/favorite female dj Mz Stylez have been hard at work for at least the last two months to get this project just right for your listening pleasure.
This project is gonna be extra special to me becuz I get to rhyme over and remake some of my favorite 80's hip hip songs. This project is me paying homage to the roots of hip hop music and culture by bringing things to a whole as far as a new school emcee gracing these classic tracks. So I hope you all get a chance to download and enjoy this free project before I drop my sophomore album Hard Money (which will be fucking awesome!).

I don't blog enough and I know it. It seems the time is hard to find, so
I'mma write this blog from my phone while sitting on the bus as I head
to this meeting. I wonder who if anyone will readi it. Hell I don't even
care.
Today just has a wonderful feeling about it. The sun is shining, I'm
headed to meeting about getting money, my band is doing well and I'm
just feeling good.
I ran into this cute, lil eccentric looking short on the buss stop and
we exchanged a few words. She was cute so I told her she was "kinda
cute", and her reply was "kinda?". I thought that was mad funny, Anyways
I told her I'd see her around sometime. The world and this city are both
very small places.
I was lerring off some random thoughts on facebook this morning, and I
got some interesting responses. It cracks me up how people can take that
so literal and serious when it's just my thoughts. I don't really care
who see's what's on my mind. I'm an artist and that's a place or canvas
for expression for me.
Hmm. Otherwise I'm feeling great. Been away for a minute, but I'm always
building.
Got tons of shows coming up, a mixtape to finish wit h Mz Stylez, and

"Fall In Love"

As we lay another soldier to rest, I bow my head to another brother in arms. Rest in peace to Baatin of Slum Village. I heard the news of his death a few days ago and was stunned as I was listening to Same Cookes "Long time coming" on the radio. I was truly saddened and still am as if I knew the brother in real life, I really only knew him through his music...however the music he made touched me. Fantastic: Vol 2 is one of my favorite hip hop albums of all times. It was when I first heard it and it will always be. "Fall in Love" is definitely one of my favorite songs of all times too! I remember the summer when i first got that cd. I had a little blue car with the cd hook up in the tape player and I swear I'd play that cd thin with that track on repeat. It always touched me some kind of way. I don't know if it was the dilla drums, the singing on the chorus or the ill melodic lyrics kicked by SV. Who knows, all I know is that record had a special place in my heart. Its a shame that two of the creators of such a great sound are no longer with us. Man! R.I.P Baatin and thanks for your contribution to hip hop music. Tell Dilla I said hello, and I'll be keeping the torch lit. I hope you all can see me from the heavens. I salute you.

Nothing ever just happens because of chance. Everything happens for a reason. Sometimes I think about my fate, my life, my kids, my career and where I’m being lead in life. And after an in depth bout of thinking I come to the conclusion that I am where I am because of the decisions I made and am still making.
As far as this music goes I take damn near every single opportunity given to me and I run with it. Where some artists I know only shoot for the big opportunities I take the big, the small and all else in between. I feel this is what is separating me from the rest of the pack. That and my work ethic. I kind of look at the situation like hey, every artist can’t blow up major out right like a FloRida or someone (and neither do I want my career to be anything like FloRida, not that I have anything against Flo, but we are two different cats). Anyhow someone has to have that slow rise. That’s the path that I am taking and would rather take anyway. Even though the road is a lot less traveled and the process is rather painstaking the end results are quite more rewarding. I feel a certain way when I’m grinding and using my last few bucks to go to another state or city to perform and bring my brand of hip hop to other regions. Yeah I do this to get a little change, but hell right now the money isn’t flowing super fast, so the respect is that what you must attain first. It is very empowering to go around the US gaining new fans and having people genuinely appreciate what you are doing. Hell I know that I am on the right path after every show when a new fan tells me that they enjoyed my show…and ten buy a cd. Yeah I’m broke, but life is good.
Sometimes I wish my kids could see more of what I am doing, or even after a long night out doing shows I could wake up to my babies smiles (I love my kids sooo much, and as I am writing this blog on this Greyhound bus ride to Chicago I miss them soooo much still). Unfortunately me and their mother aren’t together anymore. I know in my heart that what I am doing is for the further benefit of my kids and that is one of my main reasons for striving. I know if I continually do what I am doing with the intensity and consistency I will be able to live the life I want to live with my kids, just me and my babies. When I win that Grammy I’mma dedicate it to Bodunde & Asabi, they have no idea how they have helped to make me a better person in so many ways. Who knows without them I may have just settled for a fat chick and a horrible job! Fuck that. Thanks kids.
Whew, I’m jus writing..I know. My fuckin knee hurts? A few years ago I was diagnosed with tendonitis and that shit is reoccurring. Sometimes it pops up in my wrist, my ankles, my knees and any other joints where a tendon is! And I’m telling you that this shit is some fucking pain. SO know I’m dealing with my right knee being swollen, sore and throbbing. All the while walking miles everyday to do what I have to do and doing these shows! It hit me last Thursday a little while before I was about to go on stage. I thought to myself “what the fuck”, but hell I can’t let this shit slow me down, and it won’t. I embrace it. I appreciate the pain and work through it. Anyhow, I’m almost to Downtown Chicago, gonna cop some food, call the homie SP, and catch the bus to his crib and then off to Gary, IN to perform. RIP Michael Jackson,,,that’s his hometown. I’ll make the most of it. Love ya’ll. Peace.

I'm Gone!

Geezus Christ! I've been on a move crafting a movement all by the essence of my grind, hard work and intellect. Respect it or check it people, because I am gone! As in out of this world!
So as you should know (if you follow this blog), that for the past 15 days of this month I have been doing a show almost everyother day..if u were to break it down like that, and boy has it been a task. Well tonight is the last show of my 15 day performance binge and i am excited to have a breif opportunity to rest and rebuild. A few weeks ago (before the first show of this crazy schedule) I was talking to this lady about how stressed I was having to perform these shows and help coordinate alot of the planning for the shows and she told me to shut up and atop complaining because this is what I asked for. Ha ha I thought, because she was exactly right. Not that i was complaining, however I was a but pressured and thought maybe I needed an outlet, but hell this is what I asked for and my outlet is performing...so fuck it!
I am gladto say that tonight is the last show for this here binge and after I get off of the stage in Gary, In I will feel a slight feeling of accomplishment. It one thing to have a plan, vision and goal and its another thing to execute your plan, follow through and finish. With my life and music career I tend to liken it to a video game when it comes to the grind of it all. You know like how when you used to play Super mario brothers and you had to collect all the cooins in the bonus rounds in order to advance? Well I feel like these show dates I set up are like the coins and in order to advance to the next round I have to go around collecting all the coins. After I hit all my dates (collect the coins), then the game (God) sets out another task for me to overcome! I guess this kind of helps keep me focused.
I like the number 7, because it reprresents completion. I didn't come up with the idea of doing 7 shows in 15 days..it just kind of happened...maybe this is God's way of having me reach a stage of completion. Things are taking off for the kid and pretty soon I feel I'm gone. You don't need a record contract in order to be a succesful emcce, entertainer or rap artist. You just need vision, a plan and the willingness to follow through and execute the plan.

Waddup ya'll? In the midst of all that is going on I'm trying my best to get back on my blogging shit. So I at least am gonna update ya'll a few times weekly (I am not a blogger, but I have to keep ya'll updated somehow...that is if you care)!
Today has been cool for the most part. I just recently got off the phone w/ my homegirl Mz Stylez from Sirius XM radio and I am proud to announce that we will be collaborating on a mixtape in the next coming months (Sirius XM Radio...umm..this is MAAJOR). I won't even let ya'll know the theme of it all, because their just might be a biter out there, but trust me it'll be fire and it is a guaranteed look to provide ya boy with a ton of nationwide exposure. I'm just excited that she wants to work with me! If you go back a few months on this blog she ethered me on her web show Lip Service, but I was humble and apparaently she was diggin the current tape "Victory: The Hunger for War" so she called me to do more work. Plus she was just too cute for me to be mad at her!
I sold a few more cd's today, honestly I've just been catching up with some stuf online so I haven't really been out there, but I have a few shows this weekend where I'm sure I'll make a few bucks. Hell this phone bill has to get paid some how!
One thing that I am blessed with is good people to be around and offer me good sound advice. When ever I need a lift i can just call on my homegirl Rovella Williams of Almost Famous, Playboy Tre or my homie Babyboi from Nappy Boy Ent! They always have some positive words of encouragement. Oh and let me not leave out my homegirl Goldyn of Xposure magazine (who has a featured interview with me in her soon to be first issue). Thanks alot peeps. As well as all the other close family & friends who have helped me out along the way. Its amazing because I am touching the world from my little space on earth in Milwaukee! Who does that? Just last night I had an impromptu meeting with my guy Haze from NY (he was in town) who works as an A&R for Atlantic. We politicked for a minute, I gave him some cd's and an Fresh Cut Collective t shirt. I do what i can.
This Grind is so intense and I do what i can to stay afloat, man I'm broke as hell, but I just can't fathome ever going back to my office 9-5. The money was good, but in the end its not worth my soul. Till next time..pray for me.

There comes a point in time when you have to start living your dream or you just spend the rest of your life dreaming about living.
In all possible aspects last weekend was pretty dope. On Friday I along with the rest of the FCC had the opportunity to rock alongside Dumate (a hip hop band from Madison) as well as Curumin (a funk trio from Brazil). This was a great experience getting to rock with two excellent bands and also a challenge. I have to give mad props to Dumate who opened up the set, because they were COLD AS HELL! This is the first time that we as a band have actually had to think "Damn! If we don't show our ass then this other band is definitely gonna steal the show"! Not to look at things from a competitive aspect, but Dumate really tore shit up and I bet ususally they are a very hard act to follow. On the other hand I wouldn't of had it any other way, then to have a band of their caliber open up a show for us.
Our set was really live to except the fact that Reuvin the guy who does sound completely skipped out on providing us with any quality sound. Besides that people said it looked like I was lip singing because the couldn't hear me the set was okay. At least it felt good.
Curumn also did their thing up until the weeee hours of the night. I don't beleive they finished their set until about 2:30 am! Insane right! Hey i guess you get ur monies worth when you travel all the way from Brazil.
My oldewr sister came out to the show and showed her little brother some love, which was cool. This was her first time seeing the band play together nad she enjoyed it. The funny thing is that most if my lyrics are kind of autobiographical and she picked some things up in the song "Back In The Day" that I said that she also remembered. Great!
Saturday I woke up bright and early because that day we were traveling to Green Bay to rock a show up north for all those Packer fans. I had to get up extra early because I had to make some dough hustling cd;s at Garfield Days (a local annual street festival). Needless to say I walked away 60 bucks richer in a matter of a few
hours and headed up to meet with the other members of the band. I must say that I get a ton of community support in this city...people love me, and it feels damn good to be loved!
We traveled and got to Green Bay in about 2.5 hours and we were excited to find out that the venue was well into their way of preparing us some barbeque! That shit was great too, I think I ate 4-6 burgers as well as everything else they had. I ate sooo much that I wanted to fall asleep instead of performing later on that night.
All is well that ends well though. We rocked an excellent show, played with two great bands (fable and the world flat & the championship), met some great folks, made some new fans, got into some mischeif and ate some goood breakfast the morning after the show (thanks to Paul Flemings parents, who i also have to thank for letting us crash all over her house)!
