Mr Charles will be remembered for his patience, strength, wit and cool demeanor that stayed with him even in his last days. A few months ago I stopped by the Charles' residence to check up on the old man. I askes him how he was doing? He replied "Not as good as you"! I replied to him "Ha, but I bet you're doing better than a lot of folks"! He said "Yeah", and we shared a laugh together.
Mr. Charles was special to me, because he was one of the many father figures that I had in my life during an early age where my father was absent. I was only best friend to his grandson, but he treated me as if I was one of his own grandchildren. I recall summers when I played for basketball for the Clinton Rose Park's WARNING team where I would go eat and hang out with L.C and Corrine Charles. They didn;t have to let me in, offer me food and water and a place to chill for a minute, but they did.
Over the years I have spent holidays with the Charles', and countless days over their with my best homie Chris just shooting the breeze.
The pics above this post are a few of the pics that I took yesterday while spending time at the Charles residence helping console them during their time of need. It was special because all the family was there and I got to give Grandma Corrine a big hug and kiss as she enjoyed some quality time with all of her family. Some of the aunts (Rene mostly) were there cooking up breakfast for the family also.
What I love about the Charles family is that even though they go through up's and downs. They still remain a family unit. God Bless them all during their time of need. God Bless the life and legacy of Mr. L.C Charles, Rest In Peace.
