Daily Inspiration: David Banner & 9th Wonder "Strange"

It seems that after years of chasing commercial success Lavelle Crump aka David Banner has come to his senses and realized he was never the artist he portrayed. Early on in his career David Banner had commercial successes with songs such as "Like a Pimp" and production credits on smash singles like T.I's "Rubberband Man". However he failed when trying to duplicate that same formula that brought those songs success in his own career.
The underground first caught wind of David Banner for his song "Caddillac on 22's". Which was a heartfelt song that had very sincere lyrics. Fans fell in love with that side of David banner, but on each subsequent release he kept pushing for those commercial hits instead of giving the people music that they could feel. As his success as a pop star rose his sales declined
With the aptly titled "Death of a Pop Star" it seems David Banner has come full circle and once again brought the people some real, good music. I was happy to see when he teamed up with 9th Wonder to make this project happen. Projects with sincere lyrics and great production like this is exactly what the game needs right now.
I was cruising the blogosphere when I found this joint on one of those blogs (the major blogs all post the same things anyway..so it really doesn't matter to name). I hope you all like it as much as i do.

Daily Inspiration: Raheem DeVaughn "Where I Stand" (2005)

This jam goes perfect with my last post. I mean. If you are about your business with the ladies you gotta have some sultry slow jams in the collection. "The Love Experience" Raheem Devaughn's first album circa 2005 is one of those must haves. I know most of you weren't even familiar with Raheen Devaughn in 2005, but this album is an underground classic to me. Taking you back a bit. Vibe with me.

Daily Inspiration (Night Time Edition) Ice Cube "You Know How We Do it" uncut video circa 1994

"Ain't nothing going on, but the bomb ass rap song" - Ice Cube

1994 I was G'd up (or so i thought). You couldn't tell me nothing was better than some good ol' gangstafied West Coast Hip Hop. Contrary to popular belief (for those that know and have grown to know me), from about 1990 - 1994 I was damn near strictly a West Coast hip hop head. I had my East Coast Jams, but Ice Cube had me in a headlock. Who know's? Maybe it was the hard hitting hood anthems from "Amerikkas Most Wanted" (Cube's first solo album) that really made me a fan (I was a very big fan of NWA coming up also). However when the "Lethal Injection" album dropped I was sowed up! Man! All I wanted was a fro a black khaki suit and some Chuck Taylor high tops (years later I would eventually get my 1st pair of Chucks). Cube was and in most repects still is the man. I can't beleive how long he has been doing it and how long I have been a fan. I guess Ice Cube said it right...you know how we do it. Peep this classic video.

Daily Inspiration: Common "Its Your World"

"The Present is a gift, and i just want to be" - Common

I was searching the net and i ran across something that referenced where Common found the inspiration for this song in the story of a prostitute. the imagery of the lyrics ran through my head of the one of the verses where Common states "this is my life and i didn't want to be on this corner, i still want to see california". That line speaks volumes to the human struggle and triumph. Sometimes I feel the same way.

Daily Inspiration: Canibus "Get Retarded", 'Buckingham Palace"

"All I really want is you niggas to be original, and start spittin some lyrical shit that i can listen to" - Canibus

I often forget how many people tuning into this blog at first have no idea that the posts in this blog are primarily hip hop based and most of all based on my life experiences.
The track I am sharing with you all today is by Canibus from his freshman album "Can-i-Bus" called "Get Retarded". Ever since the release of this album Canibus has been receiving alot of slack for the lukewarm reception of his initial album. However the man Canibus has always been one of the ILLEST lyricist's to ever touch the mic (arguably). I can't speak on what he is doing now, but I did really a song he did on one of Black Milks mixtapes.
These two joints posted are from 1998! The kid was wayyyy ahead of his time.

Throwback: Mobb Deep "Get Dealt With" circa 1996

Arghhhhh! I used to live this song "I got my clique ready, ready for hand to hand combo"! Man this is the type of music I grew up listening to. Thats why I don't really feel all of these neo-hip hop purists with all that talk of "bringing real hip hop back", but just sounding like some fat hip hop rejects from 1987.
And secondly...most of these cats that are really playing into the whole "80's" thing were born in the laaaaaate 80's and early 90's...posers. I'm reppin for the real 80's babies who grew up listening to that real haaaard music. Hip Hop done went soft. Take ur skinnies and pastels off or like the Mobb said in 96' "Get Dealt With"!

Daily Inspiration: Common performing "Faithful" Live

Fidelity. In times like these when our faith is tested the most it is extremely hard to be faithful. Faithful to GOD, faithful to relationships or anything else for that matter.
I woke up this morning thinking about my faith in terms of where I am in life and where I'm going. Though I have no set idea as to what GOD has planned for me and my life, sometimes I wonder am I diong the right things.
My faith is tested everyday through the simple trials in life. Deep down I just want to take some time and get away from it all. The stress, work (or lack there of), my family, my music, the babymama drama and even my kids. Not saying I want to up and leave my kids. However being a young, single father is stressful sometimes and I sometimes need to gather myself. I started this thing young, so half the time I have no idea what I'm doing. I feel like a big brother to my kids moreso than a father sometimes.
All these things pull at my faith in one way or another. Like here in Milwaukee I basically have carte blanche when it comes to anything that I do musically. However I'm sick and tired of the city. I feel as soon as I leave that this place might blow up, and I'll be somewhere else starting from jump. If that is the case then Imma throw in the towel and take my ass to church or something! Lol!
Sometimes I'm faithful to all the wrong things, most of the times I'm faithful to all the wrong things to be honest! I've only really ever been faithful to maybe one of my girlfriends ever in life, I don't go to church or any religious service faithfully....I do manage to pay my cell phone bill faithfully every month though. And if there is some extra dollars to go around, I am faithfully buying some damn intoxicant to get efffed up! I pray about once a day! I guess the only thing I can say that I have been extremely faithful too was making music, and the pursuit of my goals in music. I'll be damned though if everytime I turn around I see folks who haven't been nearly as faithful as me getting put on. The shit is happening right before my eyes. I often question what it is I want out of life, I don't even know though. I always said that if I remain faithful, I'd get everything that I ever wanted in life. As the years go by though that seems like some shit that your parents just tell you to keep you pacified!
Life's a bitch and then you die, at least before I die I wanna be able to see some of the shit that I envision in my dreams. Just a lil bit. Maybe if I remain faithful.

How about some Hard Core? "Triumph" Wu Tang Clan. This video was soo dope!

WU TANG IS FOR THE BABIES!

The Road Is Made by Walking.

This blog isn't about much, however it is about something! Haha! How you like that!
What's new in the life of Adebisi? Usually I say not much to those who ask. Even though the real answer would be the exact opposite.
As an Emerging artist in the game I am now in subtle ways seeing my grind pay off.
I'mma show you how one decision leads to others and greater results. Some months ago I started recording and E.p with my homie Reason of 4ARMusic Group. We soon found out that we had a good vibe and chemistry going. So with that energy we banged out some hot shit. Out of the 9 tracks we banged out we kept seven. Out of those seven tracks I released one to the masses (This is), and it got a good reception!
Around that time I saw that there was a showcase going on in New York that I had been wanting to perform at and I just hadn't. I contacted the the organizers to that showcase and headed out to NY for an audition. WhewI went out to NY auditioned with the song "This Is" and get invited to be a part of the showcase. All the said in done and i come back home and hear of another showcase going on in ATL (Almost Famous), so immediately I want to do that one too. Fuck it this is what i do!
By no means am I a rich man that can afford to travel around the world nor am I signed to a company that can pay me. I just do it, because I was born to do it.
Anyway. I do some fundraising, save some money up, bust a few hustles, quit my job hen I'm off to New York (this was all a 3 wk process). NYC, long story short I do a lot of networking, do the showcase and everything goes just cool. My real importance for that trip was the resources that it opened up for me.
Now while I'm down in NYC I contact Rovella Williams from Almost Famous to see if she knows anyone in NYC. She connects me with Yusef of Digiwaxx. Good thing. We talk before the showcase, and the seeds are planted for a future business relationship.
Every action has a reaction. If I wouldn't have recorded the joints with Reason, I never would have gotten any reaction from an NYC DJ, never would of blossomed to go and make connects in in NY, I would've most likely never had the gusto to go do Almost Famous, etc..
I actually could go on and on about this, but by now you should really get the picture. In order to get to where you are tyring to go, at first you gotta strat going!. The road is made by walking, and no matter what happens along the road you must only keep focus on your final destination. You can be broke, hungry, cold, lonely, abused, depressed, what ever. No matter the situation as long as you stride forward and keep it moving everything will work out fine
I gotta go. Time to walk that road.

Daily Inspiration: Circulate by Young Jeezy produced by Don Cannon.

Man I know this song is old as hell by now, but this joint is fire. Jezzy hit the mark in my books with this song. Not the lyricist of the year mark, but he fa sho put it down!
Mr. Obama! Listen to Jeezy (The Secretary of the Ghetto) and make the dollaz circulate! This sing should be the anthen for the day. i mean Jeezy did it with "My President is Black", but damn we know that! Someone needs to be talking about how we are hurting in America! Struggling! After the party is over, then what the fuck! We need to eat. My president is black, but my money is still green and if my black President can't help make conditions better to put some green dollars in my back pocket! Then damnit something else needs to be changed. I gove a damn what coler the man is, just put some shiot in place to help make living in this world a better place. I promise I'll do my part too!

Daily Inspiration: Marsha Ambrosious "Truly Yours" free mixtape album.

This Mixtape is stupid fresh! After all sometimes I get sick of getting beat upsode the head with lyrics full of bang, band and male braggadacio! Man the current state of alot of going on in Hip Hop is so foul that sometimes you need a relaxing break from it all to have some time to relax your dome.
I was always a Floetry fan from the jump. I thought as a group they brought something fresh and new to our versions of souls music. I was very pleased when I finally went and took a listen to this album because it reminded me of something just so, so fresh!
I hope you all enjoy this tid bit of inspiration that Marsha Ambrosious has brought to my life!

Some Throwback Inspiration: 50 Cent "How to Rob an Industry Nigga"

"This is serious, being broke can make you delirious"

Daily Inspiration: Gorilla Zoe "Lost"

Gorilla Zoe is my nigga. I first met Zoe back in 2004 at a record store that him and his brother own on Peachtree st near Underground Atlanta called the funkshop. I was down there vacating with my new born son and wife at the time. When I met Zoe I had pretty long dreads and a gold grill. We hit it off talking about accesories when he had noticed a pair of shades that I had on and he liked them. Might I add you that this was way before the world knew about Gorilla Zoe, back when he was still ridin chevy's and manning the booth at the record store. I can't speak on whatever else he was doing, but anyone on Peachtree hustling knows what I'm talkin bout, And if I was to go there today and find my nigga Black he'd tell you I ain't lying one bit. I've been waiting to run into the man again, but since he blew up I haven't been able to contact him. You know he had to change the cell phone number and all. However we was on some real shit so I know he'd remember me. He was still at the record store in 2005 when I hit ATL to do some promo for my new record. He even helped me sell a few cd's from his shop. He said he had liked where I was taking the music because it was different from what was out nad that I should "stay down" in ATL. He said with my gring I'd catch a deal in no time. I should've listened...right!

Anyhow I've been hearing aboutthis video recently and I hadn't checked it out. Even though it has been on some of everybodies blog and what not, I just hadn't. As I was looking at World Star Hip Hop this morning I ran apon it and decided to give it a look. Might I add that I like this joint alot, and I can definitely relate to this joint. Hell sometimes I feel like I'm losing it too! It's different being in a world of your own. Maybe at a later note I'll take ya'll deeper into my feelings about the subject. For now enjoy the vid.

Damn Kanye!...I also wonder. Daily Inspiration.

I had started writing a whole other post until the feeling in my gut just told me to keep it real with ya'll and myself. To be honest I'm not a blogger, I'm somewhat of a journalist but definitely not a blogger. I'm an emcee. I write dope shit, I freestyle and I just overall enjoy everything hip hop. I emcee to free myself and to one day change my conditions. I blog to help free my passion for emceeing, and I feel a need to tell my story, because who else besides me is gonna do it. (this blog ain't all about me, but most of it is!)
I have a dream! Not only do I have this dream, but I work towards it everyday! No I'm not signed to a major. To tell the truth I'm still just a local rapper (I hate the word rapper too, so I like to say emcee). I have had much major success as a local act, due to the fact that I stay on my grind daily. No one around here is working as hard as me and I'm willing to bet the both of my lungs on it.
And I wonder if you know what it means to find your dreams? Not yet Kanye. I can't say that I have found it. I know what it is, but I haven't touched it yet. I long to grab ahold of my dreams and never let them go.
All this must end one day. When I was younger with these rap game aspirations I used to just think that all I needed to do was pay my dues and the rest would come. So I did what I thought I had to do. At first I learned to freestyle (which at first i though was impossible), but I did and I mastered that. Then I focused on writing songs and lyrics, I also did that and mastered that, whew! Then I focused on performers all the great ones. I focused in on their techniques and what I liked about them I took that with me, and last but most certainly not least. When I had my game tight, I focused on the grind. And I'll be damned if I didn't master that. I sit in my city now wondering what's next in the life of this emcee? Most certainly not obscurity, I'm hoping for destiny. God knows I give it the best in me, and this is all I've ever wanted to be. I've given and sacrificed so much that there is no turning back for me. Do you wonder if you'll ever find your dreams? Yes. However I'm through dreaming. BLAXLIFE

Daily Inspiration: Confessions of a closet Rock Star !

Secretly, deep down inside I've always wanted to be a muthafuckin ROCK STAR! I mean I am an emcee, and I love hip hop music. But what hip hop music has been lacking lately is energy and creativity. So when I get sick of hearing Kanye brag and boast or whine like a bitch, or when I sick of hearing the latest and greatest top 40 bullshit, or the next hyped up not so next big thing. I tune in to some alternative shit! last night after rehearsal I was up late having a conversation with the electric guitarist from my band (Paul Tirico who by the way will prolly be the world's next greatest electric guitarist) over a few hits of bubblegum kush about music. While we were chopping it up he hipped me to one of his favorite bands "The Mars Volta". We sat up and watched a few on their videos and from a rock and roll standpoint i was pretty impressed!. It brought me to a place in my mind where I secretly and not so secretly admire the hell out of what rock and roll music has done for music in a whole. The great live sets, the intensity, the drug induced fit's of artistic psychosis on stage, the energy! At times music can be no better. These things that are so loved in rock and roll music is what I am trying to bring to hip hip music ( al except the drug induced psychosis of course!). Anyhow I'm gonna leave ya'll wit a few imspirational rock n roll clips that I happen to dig. Bare with me, this is my life!
One

The Mars Volta (2003) ( These guys are crazy )

Coldplay "Fix You" ( This song is just great )

Jimi Hendrix "Purple Haze) RIP JIMI!

Sly and the Family Stone "Take you higher"

I had to throw some great black rock and roll acts in the mix! Open your mind folks.
